New Year’s Eve in Times Square is one of the most premier events in New Year City. I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing the event on several occasions. New Year’s Eve is and has always been a huge event that’s filled with many different moments and spectacular surprises. Some of the surprises are filled with lifetime experiences, such as marriage proposals and long romantic kisses after the ball drops. However, not everyone can withstand the cold weather and the long wait for midnight. I often see people unprepared and underdressed as spectators and they usually bail out before the ball drops.
Are you prepared for the biggest party in NYC? As you set forth your plan to tackle the crowds and weather, just remember the small things.
Small but Essential Items for New Years Eve:
Small but Essential Items for A Successful NYC New Years Eve:
Proof of Reservation: If you are staying at a hotel or have dinner reservations at any restaurant within the Time Square area you need to bring proof of reservation. This would be a printout or email confirmation with the address and dates. No guarantees but this proof can help if you’re trying to enter a street that has already been closed to pedestrian traffic.
Portable Cell Phone Charger: Don’t get caught at midnight with a dead cell phone. Countless amount of time I’ve been asked to charge a phone. I’ve even found myself a victim of no cell phone after midnight. Not the best feeling. Having an additional source of power is a great idea. I’ve seen people bring Binoculars. Contrary to what people see on television, the Star of the show, which is the actual NYE Ball is very small to the naked eye.
Dress Comfortably and Warm: I often to see females dressed to impress, thinking they can make it to midnight; not happening. Do any and everything to make yourself comfortable by starting with your clothing and shoes. I’ve seen guys bring their girlfriends for date night or even propose. Great idea for date night, just let your date know to dress comfortably before you drag them out to Time Square.
Bring a Bottle of Water: You don’t want to ruin your night by spending it in the hospital due to dehydration. Seriously, this is quite common during the night. Most people try not to drink any beverages to stop the urge from going to the restroom. Once you leave, you’re not guaranteed to get back to your same spot. But, you do need to hydrate and mentally prepare for a long night.
Important Things To Know
First Come, first served: The actual ball is very small in contrary to what you see on TV. With that being said, the closer the better. The earlier you arrive and get through the security check-point you have the best shot at getting the key area right in the middle of Time Square.
After 50th street I feel the views are not impressive if any at all. But let’s be honest, everyone goes for the experience and the thrill of it all, not really to see the ball drop. The crowd of strangers you’re with for hours, soon become your friends by the end of the night. It’s a huge party in the city streets, that you wouldn’t want to miss. Despite the long lines and wait for midnight I recommend everyone to try it at least once. Have lots of patience and prepare for the night you won’t forget in the safest place in NYC on New Year’s Eve.
